I’m Tired of the Republican Party. . .
. . . and the Democratic Party too, for that matter.
Essentially, both major parties are the same. We need to quit fooling ourselves. They both have to use different mantras and buzz words over and over again in a feeble effort to try to make a distinction between the two when there it is so hard to articulate. Sure, there are some things that they do differently. But they are both big government, heavy tax, micromanage and regulate as many aspects of society as they can.
It is so hard for Christians to even make a distinction anymore about what separates the Republican and Democratic party that they just let the pro-life/pro-choice debate settle it when, in actuality, neither party is doing anything significant to actually reverse Roe v. Wade. We’re kidding ourselves if we actually believe that John McCain will see to it that Roe v. Wade is overturned. It just isn’t going to happen with either of these guys.
There is little to distinguish about the two parties anymore. We need a third party in our government to mix things up. That will never happen if we keep voting the lesser of two evils, or as I like to say, the “lesser of two weasels”. If I happen to find third party candidates like Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin who share my convictions, I should throw my support their way. We’ll never get a third party in there if enough of us continually vote for the lesser of two evils. At some point we must decide to make a break. That will probably mean the greater of the two evils will get elected and things might be a little rough for a while. But that just might be the setup and the final straw to get more people to vote for a third party candidate the next time around.
There are some crazy third party candidates. But at least if there was another significant party on the scene the democrats and republicans would have to rethink their strategy. It might hold them accountable in ways they haven’t been to their constituencies. They, for too long, have had to just say, “You don’t want the other guy” and people would vote for them. Give people choices and let them not have to vote the lesser of two evils. Then parties will actually have to compete and work for the people if they want to stay in power. Most larger western countries have 3-5 major political parties that compete for governing power.
This won’t happen over night, but it will never happen if we keep cycling through voting the lesser of two evils. We’ve got to get tired of both parties enough to make our vote reflect that. And we can’t keep acting like there will be armageddon if the other guy/gal gets elected. That’s not who we are.
I agree!!! Thanks for your thoughts, Jarrod. Daniel and I enjoy reading your blog every so often. I hope you and Sarah are doing well.
